Scenes from the New Testament continues a musical practice from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries of engaging the choir in musical presentation of the gospel. When the gospel was read or chanted, the choir would interject by singing a portion of the story as a brief choral motet (or, a gospel motet). Upon the conclusion of the motet, the lector continued with the reading or chanting to its conclusion.

Scenes from the New Testament follows this tradition and expands upon it. Six scenes are provided with two choral settings each. The first musical setting sets a brief portion of the particular story in the gospel motet fashion using a tradition music style. The second setting is a brief contemporary meditation on the gospel story, written by poet Jill Pelaez Baumgaertner and scored for SATB choir.

Useful throughout the year, these settings bring the gospel reading alive. Enrich worship with these insightful, well-written settings. These motets could also be sung as part of a choral concert. Flute part (or C Instrument) included.
