Scalin the Blues is an introductory arrangement designed to introduce students to the world of jazz strings. It is a Blues tune that uses the scale of D Major and it's alterations so that students may use the notes of just a few simple scales to create an improvised solo as Jamey Abersold has used with wind students. For clarity, the director may choose to use one amplified bass in place of the entire contrabass section, however, during the jazz solo sections, only one bass line should prevail.
