"Sail Along Silvery Moon" is a song written by Harry Tobias and Percy Wenrich in 1937 and originally performed by Bing Crosby, although covered later on by many artists including Andy Williams, Gene Autry and Slim Whitman. It reached #4 on the U.S. pop chart in 1937. in December 1957, saxophonist Billy Vaughn released an instrumental version of the song which went to #5 on the U.S. pop chart and #1 in Germany and in Canada. The following year, the song went #1 in Norway and made #4 in Australia. This arrangement for jazz ensemble follows the alto and tenor sax duet version by Vaughn, but makes these parts available for flute and clarinet if a doubling option is desired. There are short solos throughout, but nothing too complicated, it's a warm, nostalgic chart that would fit nicely into any programme.
