In this composition, Rimsky-Korsakoff incorporated themes from the Russian Orthodox liturgy. This arrangement makes full use of the colors available to string orchestras through deft divisi passages and solo exposures for violin and cello. The character of the underlying work is preserved, including tempo changes, transitions and many meter changes, including great exposure to alle breve meters such as 5/2, 4/2, 2/1 and 3/1. This evocative arrangement is appropriate for any concert or contest program.
