The Premier Solo de Concert by Jules Demersseman is dedicated to "Monsieur le Comte Ad. De Pontécoulant".
Adolphe Doulcet de Pontécoulant (1794-1882), first officer, then director of the magazine "L’Art Musical", was interested by instrument makers and wrote a book called L’Organographie (Ed. Castel, 1861).

The Solo (in c minor-c major), was originally published by the Manufacturer Ad. Sax (around 1865), and was written for the 6 valve trombone with independent tubes. When Paul Delisse re-opened the trombone class in 1871, and when the return of an exclusive slide trombone class was agreed upon, this solo was chosen as the required piece at the concours of 1876, 1879, 1884 and 1887. Among the winners of those concours, one should mention the name of Louis Allard (first prize in 1876) who subsequently became the successor of Delisse at the position of professor.
Raymond Lapie.
