This piece is written as a catchy and virtuoso toccata with the theme of the famous Christmas choral quoted in double pedal passages, which makes a very majestic impression. An easier version without double pedal but cantus firmus in the tenor (left hand) is included and can also be used as a chorale prelude. In both versions an option is indicated how to omit the second part if only a shorter prelude is desired.
