    Piano Pieces

These pieces are enjoyable for, as Casals said, Haydn's music is poetical and expressive. Younger players should not find the music too difficult as Haydn's music suits players with small, light hands (according to Geoffrey Tankhard). Also someone said that there are many runs in Haydn's music which have joy. They fly up and should not remain on the ground. One might wish to start with the lovely Variations on the hymn tune 'Austria'. In the light of recent events pianists trying these pieces may find some solace for in the words of Pablo Casals, However dark our times may seem, art should bring a message of hope.

    Light-hearted w/ Haydn

These are an excellent compilation of Haydn piano pieces. The variations are fun to play and Henle brings out the best in their description in the Forward portion of the book.
