A stately work with a festive surprise midway. Scored for brass quintet and organ, this piece starts out with with a traditional passacaglia performed by the organist. After several variations, the 2nd trumpet chimes in with a Yuletide theme (hence the subtitle) which is soon taken up by the entire brass quintet. This transitions to a chorale prelude performed by the brass and is capped off with a regal rendition of yet another carol, with the majesty of the organ contrasted with the very involved brass counterpoint. Will put everyone in a holiday mood as your concert hall fills with glorious sounds!
