Composed by Charles Simon Catel. Arranged by Albert Schwarzmann. This edition: audio, pdf. Classical. 181 pages. Edition Schwalbe #1197748. Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1629405).

The Ouverture en Ut (Overture in C) by Charles Simon Catel is an original work for wind band, but not for a wind band in our today's understanding. It was composed for the band of the French National Guard in 1792. The overture is in sonata form with a slow introduction. The original score seems more to be written for a larger wind endemble, but all instruments have been used in a choric way to establish a large wind band with around 100 musicians. The arrangement transfers the no more practical original instrumentation to a contemporary symphonic wind band and was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer on 14 March 2009 at a gala concert at Tyrol Hall in Innsbruck Congress, Austria. A live recording of this concert is available at https://www.salzburg-windphilharmonic.at/de/musik-der-freiheitsliebe/ or https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/musik-der-freiheitsliebe/hnum/10428698?iampartner=303&subid=umr38&ref= partner.jpc.de.
