Inspired by the iconic Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols presented by King's College, Cambridge University each Christmas since 1918, this setting emulates the style, with a simple playing of the tune, IRBY, with voices and instruments added with each stanza. In this particular arrangement, a repeated melodic pattern rung by the treble bells can be rung with the bells suspended on a bell tree or rung LV by one or two ringers. Under this pattern, the main melody enters with options of handchimes, an instrument, a voice, or voices. (3 octaves) Handbell Level 2+.
