It features continuous form, slow and organic development, engaging counterpoint, and advanced, dissonant harmonies. The piece contains two main themes-the A theme evokes despair and wondering; the B theme, longing and tension. The two themes are introduced towards the beginning, and they are used throughout the whole piece in various angles and representations. There is an open solo section for whomever desires to improvise. The piece climaxes with the B theme represented by piercing unison lines, and accented by striking low notes from the piano and acoustic bass.
The full instrumentation is as follows: Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Piano, Acoustic Bass, Drum Set.
