2016 Choral Contest Entry. This Somerset folk song was collected by Cecil Sharp (who died in 1924). It is one of most perfect melodies I know, and has fascinated me since I was a schoolboy. I’ve made nearly a dozen arrangements over the years, each a little closer to what I’m after. The big challenge is to introduce enough variety of texture and harmony to sustain six verses, without obscuring the essential simplicity. The piano part is for rehearsal only.
