Published by FG (A0.1181762).“A Night on Bald Mountain” is a fantastical symphonic poem composed in 1867 by Modest Mussorgsky, inspired by the works of Ukrainian writer Nikolai Gogol.
The piece vividly portrays a witches' sabbath taking place on Bald Mountain, a legendary site, during the night of St. John's Eve.
In 1886, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov re-orchestrated and adapted Mussorgsky's original composition. This version remains the most widely performed today and gained further recognition through its use in Disney's animated film Fantasia.
This arrangement for a large concert band aims to stay as faithful as possible to Rimsky-Korsakov’s orchestration while reducing technical challenges, making it accessible to a Grade 4 ensemble.
