Smart.

I am grateful to Dr. Cara Tasher, Director of Choral Activities at the University of North Florida and a dedicatee, for drawing my attention to this lovely setting of one of Christina Rossetti's most touching poems, which the poet herself titled A Birthday. Gary Smart's writing is full of delicate subtleties which enhance the text to great effect. For those who, like me, are challenged by the word vair, I looked it up! The bluish-gray and white fur of a squirrel prized for ornamental use in medieval times.

Take particular care with the balance of the chords to bring out the wisps of melody which move around gently between the different voice parts.
