The work is dedicated to Her Majesty Maria Christina and appeared in 1899. The "Zortzico" is a Basque time signature in the basic 5/8 rhythm. Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908) proved in this composition once again his particular empathy for the music of his homeland and for the needs of virtuoso violinists.
