The name of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is inextricably connected to the German city of Leipzig. This modest and very dutiful master composer worked like a diligent civil servant. From 1723 until his death in 1750, he was cantor of the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Bach Festival takes place in this city every year. The hallmark of Leipzig is internationality: every year, soloists come from far and near to perform the baroque music again. The Bach Festival inspired the Dutch composer Henk Hogestein to write Memories of Leipzig, which is based on a theme from one of Bach’s arias.

De naam van Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is onlosmakelijk verbonden met de Duitse stad Leipzig. Deze bescheiden en plichtsgetrouwe meestercomponist was cantor van de Thomaskirche in Leipzig van 1723 tot 1750, het jaar van zijnoverlijden. Al sinds het begin van de twintigste eeuw vindt in deze stad jaarlijks het Bachfeest plaats, dat de Nederlandse componist Henk Hogestein inspireerde tot het schrijven van Memories of Leipzig, dat gebaseerd is op eenprachtig thema uit een van Bach’s aria’s.

Der Name von Johann Sebastian Bach ist untrennbar mit der Stadt Leipzig verbunden. Seit dem Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts findet in Leipzig jährlich das Bachfest statt. Markenzeichen von Leipzig ist dabei Internationalität: Jedes Jahr kommen Solisten aus aller Welt, um erneut die Barockmusik des großen Meisterkomponisten aufzuführen. Das Bachfest inspirierte Henk Hogestein zu seinem Stück Memories of Leipzig, welches auf einem Thema aus einer Bach-Arie basiert.
