Composer’s Notes These Mementos were conceived through my experiences as a private brass teacher. Students must learn their twelve major scales and the chromatic scale but never display that mastery in a solo performance setting. Many etudes designed for scale study are intended for practice room focus and not public display, and are not enjoyable to casual listeners. By creating short, attainable, and memorable solos students will be able to practically display their mastery of each scale, whether individually or in sets. How many of these can you execute exactly the way you want each time you perform it? It is my hope these help grow confidence and competence in each performer.
