This composition for SATB choir and piano is an effort to cover a vacuum: The well-known musical form of a MAGNIFICAT, in the original Greek Language. It is provided with Greek sounding transcription in Latin letters. The text comes from the Gospel according to Luke (Luc. 1:46-55) and describes the visitation of the pregnant Theotokos to her cousin Elisabeth and her joy and gratitude as "the baby leaped in her womb".
This work is a effort to combine the Byzantine musical tradition with western music choral polyphony and has been performed to inspiring response. Duration just over 15 min.The mp3 file attached is a converted sibelius file. This composition won the first prize in the International Donne in Musica Competition in Serbia, in 2023.
