Sullivan's compositions, when seperated from W S Gilbert's constraints, take a lot of cues from his work on Verdi's operas. However, they are rarely dark and brooding, but generally full of light, grace, joy and delight. This, rarely performed suite, is no exception; it is full of wonderful themes, energy and colour.
