The screenplay was adapted from the book Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13 by astronauts Jim Lovell and Jeffrey Kluger. It was nominated for nine Academy Awards (winning for Best Film Editing and Best Sound).
The iconic and moving score to Apollo 13 was composed and conducted by James Horner. It was nominated for an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score.
