Composer's Notes
For three years, I was the church choir director at the Community Congregational Church of Garden City, Kansas, before turning the job over to my wife upon winning a college teaching position out of town. The church and I wanted my last experience as the choir director at the church to be a special one. With that in mind, the Pastor at the church, Dr. Mike Lake, commissioned a piece from me. He had only one request; that the piece has a wonderful message.

I have always loved the text of this ancient Sanskrit proverb of Serenity attributed to Kalidasa. It is a reminder to live in the moment, remember life is precious, and to be experienced in the moment.

Look To This Day was premiered by my friends and family in the CCC choir with one of my best friends, Matthew Morris, on bassoon, at the Community Congregational Church in Garden City, KS, in July of 2011.
