This unique edition consists of the last half of No. 15 (recitative) and all of No. 16 (chorus) of the 1895 oratorio Die Geburt Christi (“The Birth of Christ”) by Heinrich von Herzogenberg who sought to integrate liturgical church music and concert oratorios. The music of the chorus is Herzogenberg’s setting of Michael Praetorius’ 1609 harmonization of the tune ES IST EIN ROS’ ENTSPRUNGEN paired with the familiar translated text of the German folk carol (Baker) that has been altered slightly here.
