Composed by Akira Toda. Chamber Music. Ensemble. Score & parts. Duration 8:20. Bravo Music #ENMS-84059. Published by Bravo Music (BZ.ENMS-84059).
This work consists of five movements: 1. Tubium Dance, 2. Waltz, 3. Sorrow Dance, 4. Euphonian Dance, and 5. Final Dance.
"Tubium Dance" is a coinage combining euphonium and tuba, named after the euphonium tuba ensemble group "Tubium" of which the composer serves as music director. It's written in 5/8 time and gives the appearance of dancing seriously and briskly. In "Waltz", tuba and euphonium dance cheerfully, in animation. "Sorrow Dance" should feel depressed. "Euphonian Dance" expresses the merriment of the Euphonium State, and Euphonians are of course euphonium people. "Final Dance" is written in the style of #1, "Tubium Dance"; the tuba and euphonium dance violently.
This work was written in April 2003 and premiered that July for the 60th birthday celebration of Takashi Yamamoto, professor of Tokyo College of Music, and dedicated to him. Its public première was at the 25th regular concert of Tokyo College of Music Tuba Euphonium Ensemble held at Hokutopia Tsutsuji Hall in December 2003. The players were 1st Euph: Mika Inoue, 2nd Euph: Mami Uchida, 1st Tuba: Kasumi Terayama, and 2nd Tuba: Saori Nishimura.
