From the composer: ‘Lionstone March’ was written to honour Cathy Lowenstein, the former Head of School at Vancouver Talmud Torah Elementary (Vancouver, Canada), on the occasion of her retirement from that position. Mrs. Lowenstein is an ardent supporter of arts education, and during her tenure presided over one of the premier elementary arts programs in Canada. Her last name ‘Lowenstein’, of German origin, translates to ‘Lionstone’, hence the title of this piece. This march is designed to focus on beginner band rudiments, with an emphasis on dynamic control, steady tempo, and ensemble awareness.
