Dedicated to Grady Graden and the St. Jakobs Kammarkör, conductor Brian Schmidt gave the American premiere of this work with the Baylor University Choir. The text is by Rabindranath Tagore, a native of Calcutta whose poetic songs were viewed as spiritual and mercurial, but not well known outside Bengal. The mystical and quiet opening gives way to triple meter, Vivace (Ah, the light dances). The piece closes with a reference to the opening texture, this time majestic and ecstatic (Mirth spreads from leaf to leaf).
