The prelude makes use of the compositional symbol for"following" ("Come Christians follow, where our captain trod") by using a canon between the pedal and right hand. The postlude is a thrilling fanfare followed by a toccata section with frequent passages that"rise" symbolizing"lifting up" the cross.
