Kirkpatrick was an Irish-American hymnist. He lived from the 19th to the early 20th Century. This hymn is great for Good Friday or Communion services. Sections A and C are the verses. Section B and D are the refrain. Between section B and C is a modulation to a new key with the help of an augmented sixth chord (German 6th). A descant is added by yours truly.
