La Otra Historia (The Other History) is a piece I composed based on events, facts, and anecdotes I discovered while learning about the history of Baja California — that "isolated and vibrant land where nature can be preserved as in a great national park."
The first movement recounts the episode in which Hernán Cortés, believing that Baja California was "an island, entirely populated by women... very rich in pearls and gold," decided in 1532 to send Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, commanding two ships, to explore the region.
In the second movement, I portray the countless cases of oppression, abuse, and injustice suffered by the most underprivileged classes in this territory, from the arrival of the Spanish to the present day.
To contrast with the previous movement, I composed a piece with an intense character, depicting the glorious era when Tijuana — due to its border location and natural attractions — experienced the most splendid period in its history, during the 1920s.
La Otra Historia was commissioned by guitarist Roberto Limón and dedicated to him and his daughter, pianist Amanda Limón.

La Otra Historia (L'Autre Histoire) est une pièce que j'ai composée à partir d'événements, de faits et d'anecdotes découverts en apprenant l'histoire de la Basse-Californie, cette « terre isolée et vibrante où la nature peut être préservée comme dans un grand parc national ».
Le premier mouvement raconte l'épisode où Hernán Cortés, persuadé que la Basse-Californie était « une île entièrement peuplée de femmes… très riche en perles et en or », décida en 1532 d'envoyer Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, commandant deux navires, explorer la région.
Dans le deuxième mouvement, je dépeins les innombrables cas d'oppression, d'abus et d'injustice subis par les classes les plus défavorisées de ce territoire, depuis l'arrivée des Espagnols jusqu'à nos jours.
En contraste avec le mouvement précédent, j'ai composé une pièce au caractère intense, illustrant l'époque glorieuse où Tijuana, grâce à sa situation frontalière et à ses attraits naturels, a connu la période la plus faste de son histoire, dans les années 1920.
La Otra Historia a été commandée par le guitariste Roberto Limón et dédiée à lui et à sa fille, la pianiste Amanda Limón.
