Religious thought is shaped by many forces and traditions, from our own personal experiences to ancient, widely-practiced faiths. This ecstatic and introspective work reflects upon several timeless sources of religion, reveling in the wonder, discovery, challenge and joy which they offer.

Kindling's individual movements are based on the Six Sources of Religion as recognized by Unitarian Universalism. Some of these sources, like Judaism and Christianity, have legacies long and deep. Others, such as "direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder" and "words and deeds of prophetic women and men," are particular to each individual, a phenomenon which deepens religion through personal insight. In the final movement, these profound and diverse sources enrich each person's own spiritual core, become kindling for "the chalice of our hearts."

Commissioned by First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston.
