Journey and Celebration is an expansive overture, full of strong themes and robust writing. It is an ideal opener or closer for a concert, and in the finale the composer has combined his experience of writing for Big Band with the symphonic texture of the Concert Band to produce an exciting finish.

Paul Hart is one of Britain's most successful young writers and performers. He writes extensively for television and films but has also written major works for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, including a Guitar Concerto, performed by John Williams at the Promenade Concerts. The first performance was given by Swindon Young Musicians' Club conducted by Bramwell Tovey at the Wyvern Theatre on 29 January 1989.
