A Must for Serious Jazz Drummers
Jazz Solos for Drum Set Volume #1 is a game changer for me. Rich Thompson's transcriptions offer an exhilarating cross section of solos by six of the most influential drummers spanning the bebop era. I am 72 years old, and throughout my drumming life, I have always wondered how these iconic players created such amazing sounds. Now, I can get up early to practice, so that I have the opportunity to sound like Elvin, Philly Joe, Max, et al. It significantly adds to the vocabulary of the instrument and is a godsend to my retirement because, after decades of playing in so-so rock bands, I can aspire to finally getting into a bebop group. For me, this helps to save the best for last. It makes me eagerly look forward to Volume 2.
