TRAGIC STORY: An American lawyer named Horatio lost his young son, and then his business burned down. His wife and young daughters sailed to England for a respite, and Horatio planned to follow them shortly. Then he received this heart-breaking telegram from his beloved wife Anna: "SAVED ALONE." Their ship had been struck by another, sank in the ocean, and all 4 daughters drowned.
Horatio rushed to Anna on the next ship. On the deck in the middle of the Atlantic, the captain pointed out the spot in the ocean where his family was lost in the shipwreck. And there on that deck, Horatio wrote this song: It Is Well with My Soul.
This hymn can inspire us also with courage and trust, helping us find peace in our own journey.
