George Thomas Speer was a school teacher and Southern Gospel song writer from Fayette, Georgia. He was experienced in singing schools and shaped note music. The hymn discusses the joy on the day one became a believer in Christ. Sections A and C are the verse. Section B and D are the chorus. A modulation to a new key occurs between B and C via an Italian augmented sixth chord. A descant by yours truly is then added.
