Orchestral Score. Composed by John Powell. This edition: Paperback/Softcover. Sheet music. Study score. Composed 2019. 380 pages. Omni Music Publishing #OMNI 95585. Published by Omni Music Publishing (M7.OMNI-95585).

With How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, director Dean DeBlois completed his trilogy of films for DreamWorks Animation, based on the book series by Cressida Cowell. Like its two predecessors, it was a financial success for the studio, grossing $520 million worldwide. Once again, DeBlois turned to John Powell to provide the musical narration. This time, instead of relying heavily on existing music, Powell wrote a plethora of new themes, including one for the rumoured Hidden World and the vicious warlord Grimmel the Grisly. Powell composed a new love theme when Toothless meets a rare female Light Fury dragon; the light and feathery melody accompanies them as they flirt in the sky. Throughout the score, Powell's inventive melodies and textures remain focused on providing a clear narrative. As with the previous two entries, this music required exceptional dexterity from the musicians as they performed over 100 minutes of dazzling and eye-catching orchestral music. For the first time, musicians, music students, conductors - anyone who loves music - can study How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World in this durable, high-quality edition, carefully reproduced and edited from the original scores.
With each successive film, Powell figures out new ways to express himself while still telling a cohesive story. All in all, the dragon trilogy frames a decade of film music and now fans of the franchise can see how the music has evolved in this ten year period as the composer's style matured.
