He wrote the musical score for a documentary called "The Lost Bird Project," which follows the stories of 5 birds that were driven to extinction. This beautiful piece borrows a portion of the melody of that score.
Hope Is the Thing With Feathers is a choral piece, but it translates well into an instrumental one. The music is based on the poem written by Emily Dickinson: "Hope" is the thing with feathers -That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all - And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm - I've heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me. Scored for piccolo, 4 C flutes, alto, bass, and contrabass. There is an optional cello part that doubles the contrabass, and can be substituted by any C instrument in a similar range. Duration: 3 minutes.
