The Cantata Christmas Carols was composed in 1992, a sevenmovement cycle based on traditional Russian, Ukrainian and Belarussian Christmas carol motifs. The third movement, Sviata Nich [Holy Night] is based on a folk variant of Franz Gruber's Stille Nacht Heilige Nacht! widely sung in Ukraine, and will serve to add a truly multinational flavor to any Christmas program. Subtle bells and bar chimes add to the charm of this arrangement.
