Composed by Ada Habershon; Matthew Merker. Arranged by Renee H. McKee. This edition: audio, pdf. Graduation, Praise & Worship, Religious, Sacred. Score. 5 pages. Renee H. McKee #1208581. Published by Renee H. McKee (A0.1641683).
The deeply comforting music and message of “He Will Hold Me Fast” is needed in our lives. The power of our Savior’s love for us is further magnified in the words of the older hymn,“Be Still My Soul,” which was set to the music by the Finnish composer of the late Romantic Period, Jean Sibelius.
In this arrangement that includes both songs, the two are at first gently woven together, then are stated individually, much like conversations between one’s fretful mind and hopeful heart. After tender moments of assurance, an intense feeling of being held tightly during a storm occurs in mm. 58-64. We then hear a reminder to “be still” because He indeed “will hold me fast”.
Recommended for any occasion that calls for assurance of God’s protective care: church preludes, postludes, memorial services, graduations, offertories and more.
