Cawood was an Anglican minister, curate, and hymnist. This hymn was found in a collection of "Sacred Psalms" from Stuttgart, Germany. The text was based on the scene in Luke 2: 14. Section A does the exposition. A modulation to a new key occurs towards the end on the section with the aid of a German augmented sixth chord. Section B is the new key along with a descant by yours truly added.
