Composed by Jeremiah Lawson. This edition: pdf, streaming. 21st Century, Blues, Classical, Rock. Individual part. 11 pages. Jeremiah Lawson #1210619. Published by Jeremiah Lawson (A0.1643306).

This is a multi-movement guitar sonata with a vocabulary drawn from rock, blues and country yet drawing on the work of Haydn's monothematic sonata forms and variation movements as a way to organize the material. John Lee Hooker, Duke Ellington, and rock riffs by way of Haydn's approach to writing string quartets is a way to describe this piece. It can be played on classical, electric or acoustic instruments and adapted into a power trio format.

I. Allegro (a monothematic sonata/variation hybrid using a blues theme, the recapitulation kicks off with a strict canon at the octave in two voices but that may be replaced with a plain reprise or with improvisation in a performance)

II. Larghetto (a ternary form that continues developing ideas from the first movement, has alternate form as slow variations in Appendix)

III. Rondo (a five-part rondo with the first episode being an adaptation of a Sor etude and the second a reprise of the first movement theme)
Appendix, alternate form of movement 2 as a continuous variation form on the A of the ABA.

There is space in each movement for a performer to improvise if desired or it can be played strictly as written. The second movement can be played as is, the Appendix can be substituted or used as a guide for a performer who wants to improvise on the theme from the second movement.
