This sheet music is notated for 8-note (one octave, C major diatonic scale) instruments with handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Included in this set of scores is a 3-page combined score with both parts on a grand staff plus a separate 2-page, 1-staff score for each instrument.
This arrangement is perfect for introducing new players to Handbells and Boomwhackers®. With only quarter notes and rests in the score, beginning players can focus on learning ringing and whacking techniques. Using a familiar tune presented in an easy format builds confidence as players become comfortable being a part of an ensemble while learning a few basic notes and rhythms.
This set of scores uses
black and white noteheads. This same set of scores is available (sold separately) with
color coded noteheads which may make it easier for beginning players if you have access to a color printer.
Each page of the 3-page grand staff score presents one verse of the song with each page progressively a little more challenging. The first page has the Handbells playing the melody while the Boomwhackers® keep a steady rhythm with two-note chords. Verse 2 (page 2) has the Boomwhackers® playing the melody with the Handbells playing single note harmony. The third and final verse (page 3) returns to Handbells on the melody and the Boomwhackers® playing a more challenging two-note chord rhythm.
Each instrument part uses all 8 notes: C D E F G A B C* where C* is one octave above middle C. The two parts are interchangeable. The number of ringers and whackers needed will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. For more advanced players, each person could be assigned two or three notes for a total group size of 7 players. For beginners, it is best to assign one note to each person. At one note per person, a group of 16 players would be required.
Other suggestions and uses: * form a choir using multiple sets of bells and/or Boomwhackers® (this would amplify the sound and allow more people to participate)
* use as part of the music education for children at school, home, or church
* these colorful, inexpensive instruments can be enjoyed by all ages and add a fun, unique element to activities and programs: senior centers, family reunions, church retreats, home school groups, just to name a few
Permission is granted to make up to 10 copies of each score. For more than 10 copies, please purchase additional sets.
