Composed by Colin Brumby. Text: Psalm 26. A big anthem in English cathedral style. General. Octavo. Published by CanticaNOVA Publications (C5.5242).
Here we have a "big" anthem in glorious English cathedral style (think "With A Voice of Singing" by Martin Shaw). Australian composer Colin Brumby has given us a very useful setting of Psalm 26 that a good parish choir can easily handle. This piece has optional solos for bass and tenor, and a soprano/alto duet dividing sections of generally homophonic choral texture. A small fughetta on the text, "My foot stands on an even path," leads to the chords which end the work on a refreshing and surprising A Major cadence in an otherwise C Major key. Text from Psalm 26 includes: 1. SATB: Give judgment for me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity: I have trusted in the Lord and not wavered. / 2. bass solo: Put me to the test, O Lord, and prove me: try my mind and my heart. / 3. SATB: For your steadfast love has been ever before my eyes: and I have walked in your truth. / 4. soprano/alto duet: I wash my hands in innocence, O Lord: that I may go about your altar. / 5. SATB: And lift up the voice of thanksgiving: to tell of your marvelous works. / 6. tenor solo: Lord, I love the house of your habitation: and the place where your glory dwells. / 7. SATB: My foot stand on an even path: I will bless the Lord in the great congregation. A good organ accompaniment and solid vocal writing make this piece a winner in your repertoire!
