Jesus gurea / Gaur sortzen da / Belenengo urian / Ai gure Umea / Yaio da / Alabatua The Capuchin composer Lorenzo Ondarra (Bakaiku 1931-Pamplona 2012) wrote the work Gabon Kantak (1996) for a mixed choir of four voices and based on six Basque Christmas songs from the Resurrección María de Azkue song book. These are songs written in 6/8 or 2/4 time, whose texts deal with common Christmas themes such as the birth of Jesus, the Virgin Mary and Joseph, the shepherds and the Magi. “Gaur sortzen da" is the only song of the series written in triple time and is more dramatic in nature. Gabon Kantak was premiered by the Etxarri Aranatz choir, led by Igor Ijurra, on 27 December 1997, at Saint Nicholas’Church, Pamplona.
