Composed by Edward MacDowell. Arranged by Alex Phillips-Yates. 20th Century,Children,Classical,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 43 pages. North Node Music #3563491. Published by North Node Music (A0.510275).

Edward MacDowell (1860-1908) is probably best-known for his beautiful melody "To a Wild Rose", along with other solo piano works. "Forgotten Fairy Tales" was first published in 1897, under his pseudonym Edgar Thorn.

"Forgotten Fairy Tales" is a suite of 4 short but charming movements, full of vitality and lyrical melodies:
1. Sung outside the Prince's door
2. Of a Tailor and a Bear
3. Beauty in the Rose-Garden
4. From Dwarf-land

Total approx. running time: 9 minutes

This arrangement is for string orchestra without double bass. It can be successfully performed with a minimum of 8 players (2 first violins, 2 second violins, 2 violas and 2 cellos), though additional players will of course enhance the richness of the ensemble. All movements are in string-friendly keys (G major and D major), and the 2nd violin part is slightly easier than the others, not venturing above 1st position, so the suite is accessible to amateurs and school ensembles.

This arrangement was first performed by the String Orchestra of the Lancaster Community Music Centre, Lancashire, UK.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds.
