An opening melody, first heard in the trombones and soon passed to trumpets and saxophones, floats easily over the five-four groove as this work sets out. Moving to a three-feel in the bridge, the work moves onto a sort of shout section trading with various soloists playing four bars each. With a piano breakdown following, alto saxophone and trombone counter melodies leading back to the bridge, a false ending and a nice last chord. Try to keep this tune out of your head if you can but the groove will stay with you for sure.
