This book is a set of fanfares and ceremonial pieces for three trombones, suitable for any 'festive occasion'. There are arrangements of well-known nuggets such as Charpentier's Prelude, Beethoven's Ode to Joy and Handel's Hornpipe from the Water music, as well as original compositions by Martin Klaschka, the German trombone player and teacher who has put the collection together. The pieces are all very short, none coming in at much over a minute in length, and as such serve their purpose adequately. The technical demands and range of all the parts should be within the grasp of any reasonable competent player of around Grade 3-4 upwards. The pieces would make great exercises for learning to play as a section in an orchestra or wind band, and would be perfect for practicing the chorale-like harmonies and intonation skills which section playing requires. On the whole, this is an extremely competent and commendable set of well-arranged and composed exercises and a useful addition to the trombone repertoire library.
