A Favorite to Share
My daughters [...]teacher from years ago introduced us to Melody Bober and we had this in our pile of sheet music. I tried it out a couple of months this ago and have practiced it for about ten minutes at a time off and on since. I took eleven years of lessons in my youth ending in 1975 so am not a pro. This piece is so much fun to practice and always sounds wonderful. I liked it so much I surprised my sister in SC with a copy a few weeks ago and it has brought her back to the priano. She hadnt touched hers in several years and now works on learning this everyday, a little bit at a time and is loving it.

This arrangement by Melody Bober has rich chromatic harmony and different variations of accompaniment which make the tune sounds pleasing in the ear and touches one emotionally.

disappointed
I expected more from a Melody Bober arrangement. My dislikes: The jazz-type chords in the beginning don't fit the rest of the piece. There is absolutely no transition into the triplet section at ms 45, which is very boring and unoriginal to me. The crossing over to the one low bass note? bleh. This section is barely intermediate level. I just plain didn't like the Grandioso section, kind of contrived.The consecutive C major arpeggios in ms 95 and 97, too easy, come on Melody, put a little effort into this! They could have at least been inverted!I will say that this piece does have a nice ending, if you can hang in there that long. I can imagine that it would sound impressive to listen to, but as far as playing it, not so much.

Fantasy on the Londonderry Air
I searched for a long time for a good arrangement of Danny Boy. Most of them are very simple. This one is wonderful. It has great variety and is a challenge. It is not easy and stretches your skills.

Fantasy on the Londonderry Air
I heard this arrangement several years ago at a recital--I was ecstatic to find it at Sheet Music Plus. It the most beautiful, unforgettable arrangement of this timeless piece I have ever heard.
