Bei der Literatur fur diese Besetzung denkt man eher an wirkungsvolle Brillanz als an Gedankentiefe, Kontrapunktik oder expressive Melodik. Doch gerade in der schopferischen Auseinandersetzung mit Brahms'scher Musik ergab sich fur den Komponisten Harald Feller die Moglichkeit, das Ausdrucksspektrum fur diese Besetzung zu erweitern und der Trompete auch eine lyrische Seite abzugewinnen. Das thematische Material bildet das Thema der fruhen Orgelfuge in as-Moll, der der junge Komponist bereits seine ganze kontrapunktische Meisterschaft zeigt. Die vorliegende 'Fanstasie' ist mit den Elementen dieses Themas, deren Umkehrung, Vergrosserung und Diminuition weitgehend sehr dicht kontrapunktisch gearbeitet. Es finden sich aber auch fur jedes der beiden Instrumente eine kurze Kadenz mit der Moglichkeit einer gewissen Virtuositat und Freiheit. Die Passagen mit Dampfer sind wiederum von ausserster melodischer Zartheit. (Auszug aus dem Vorwort).
