‘Fanfare for a Friend’ was originally composed as an introductory piece for the brass ensemble Musica Mosana and their conductor Mark Prils. The work begins with a brilliant brass fanfare that presents the main theme for the first time. This stately theme can be heard in counterpoints throughout the first 28 bars. This is followed by a contrasting and rapid part whereby a melodic theme can be heard against a more rhythmic accompaniment. A virtuoso and sweeping passage then leads to the grandioso in which both themes are played simultaneously in a grand finale.

‘Fanfare for a Friend’ werd oorspronkelijk geschreven als openingswerk voor hetkoperensemble ‘Musica Mosana’ en zijn dirigent Mark Prils. Het werk begint met een briljante koperfanfare waarin het hoofdthema wordt voorgesteld. Ditstatige thema wordt contrapuntisch verwerkt doorheen de eerste 28 maten. Daarop volgt een contrasterende snelle passage waarin een zangerig thema paradeert boven een eerder ritmische begeleiding. Een virtuoze en opzwepende passagevormt de overgang naar de grandioso waarin beide thema’s gelijktijdig klinken in een grootse finale.

’Fanfare für einen Freund’ war ursprünglich konzipiert als Eingangswerk für das Blasorchester ’Musica Mosana’ und dessen Dirigenten Mark Prils. Das Werk eröffnet mit einer brillanten Blechbläserfanfare, welche das Hauptthema zum ersten Mal vorstellt. Dieses prächtige Thema dominiert den Kontrapunkt in den ersten 28 Takten. Abgelöst wird es durch einen gegenteiligen und schnellen Teil, in dem eine Melodie über einer rhythmischen Begleitung schwebt. Eingeleitet durch eine virtuose und schwungvolle Passage wird der Höhepunkt erreicht, in dem sich beide Themen zu einem großen Finale vereinigen.

L’oeuvre commence par une brillante fanfare de cuivres dans laquelle est présenté le thème principal. Ce thème majestueux est traité de façon contrapuntique durant les 28 premières mesures. Vient ensuite un passage rapide qui marque le contraste et dans lequel un thème mélodieux se distingue d’un accompagnement plutôt rythmique. Un passage plein de virtuosité et d’entrain amène au grandioso qui reprend simultanément les deux thèmes dans un final éclatant.

Fanfare for a Friend inizia con una fanfara brillante degli ottoni che esegue il tema principale per la prima volta. Questo tema si presenta in contrappunto fino alla misura 28. Segue una parte contrastante e veloce, dove un tema melodico fa da contrasto ad uno più ritmico. Un passaggio virtuoso accompagna al grandioso finale dove entrambi i temi sono eseguiti contemporaneamente.
