Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by Charles Gunsaullus. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical,Historic,Ragtime. 16 pages. Charles Gunsaullus #793622. Published by Charles Gunsaullus (A0.1194242).
Of all of the 40-plus rags Scott Joplin composed, this one is my favorite. It is very upbeat and fun and full of surprises. For this arrangement, I transposed up a step from the original to be easier for strings, and also added a couple of counter-melodies in the second violin. Everyone gets in on the action, even the cello who plays a raucous bassline in the closing bars.
All parts except the cello feature some simple double stops that are usually easy for advanced intermediate players. The rhythm can be tricky and some of the string crossings can be a little awkward, so this arrangement is best played by more advanced players (maybe high school and up, or very advanced middle schoolers).
