This is a compilation of transcriptions of Shostakovich's ballets and film music, transcribed by Lev Atovmyan, not Shostakovich. It's fine if you are just looking to get some exposure to the harmonies of Shostakovich for your own enjoyment, but teachers should be aware that these transcriptions may not be acceptable for competitions and adjudications. It's not really SheetMusicPlus.com's fault, as Schirmer makes no mention of it either! Pretty big attribution oversight ...The music inside looks easy enough - early to mid intermediate. There are some pieces that might be accessible to students who are working on Bach inventions and Diabelli sonatinas, and pieces that would challenge slightly more advanced students who might be working on Chopin waltzes or Haydn sonatas. The major challenge for these students would probably be the reading and learning process, as the harmonies are not of the tonal palette to which they are generally accustomed.
